Decent Work-Life Balance for a Big Bank
Working at HSBC as a Relationship Manager in the New York City office has been a mixed bag for work-life balance. For the financial services industry, it's actually not bad, thanks to the hybrid work options. However, there are definitely times when client needs demand longer hours, making it less consistent than I'd like.
Work-life balance here is pretty solid for the financial services industry, especially with the hybrid work setup. As a Relationship Manager in the New York City office, my manager usually respects after-hours. We often do 40-45 hour weeks, which is good for a corporate bank.
Sometimes client demands mean long days, particularly during quarter-end reporting periods. It's not always consistent, and I've felt pressure to be 'always on' for key clients. The pace in this corporate bank environment can still be intense at times.
Try to standardize expectations for client contact outside of business hours to prevent burnout. More clear boundaries could help a lot.
