Hybrid work is a start, but needs improvement

Working at Molex has been an okay experience overall. There are some good parts, but also some frustrations, especially with how they handle working remotely and in-office schedules.

Pros

The company offers a hybrid work policy, which is definitely a plus. As a Manufacturing Engineer, it's good to have some flexibility for WFH days when I don't need to be directly on the production floor. It helps cut down on the commute to the Lisle, IL office a few times a week.

Cons

Actual flexibility can be pretty limited, especially for roles like mine in the electronics industry. While the policy exists, managers often push for more in-office days than are really necessary. It sometimes feels like you're tied to an onsite schedule even when your work could be done remotely.

Advice to Management

Really stick to the stated hybrid policies and give teams more autonomy. Trust your employees to get the work done, whether they're in the office or remote. More consistent application across different departments would help a lot.

Stable Company, Good Benefits for Engineers
Pros: As a Manufacturing Engineer at Molex in Lisle, IL, I've found it to be a very stable company in the electronic components manufacturing industry. The pay is competitive, and the benefits package is a big plus. There are good opportunities to learn, and colleagues are supportive.
Cons: Career progression can feel slow for experienced engineers. Occasional busy periods on the manufacturing floor mean longer hours. Some older internal systems are present.
Advice to Management: Focus on improving career path clarity and addressing bottlenecks in the promotion process for long-term employees. Consider reviewing and modernizing internal systems.

Stable, Supportive, and Flexible for Engineers
Pros: As an Applications Engineer, I enjoy the stable environment and supportive teammates at Molex. There are good learning opportunities in electronics manufacturing, and the hybrid work setup provides solid work-life balance. It's a great place to develop your technical skills and feel secure in your job.
Cons: While decent, the pace for career advancement can sometimes feel a bit slow without constant proactive effort. Some internal approval processes also take longer than ideal, occasionally impacting project timelines.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining internal approval processes and clearly outline career progression paths for employees to foster faster growth and reduce frustration.

Okay Work-Life, but Demanding in Manufacturing
Pros: As a Manufacturing Engineer, I found the work-life balance generally decent here. You often get your 40 hours done, and there's some possibility for WFH when project phases allow. It's a big corporate company, so the benefits package helps with overall compensation.
Cons: Deadlines in the connectivity industry can get intense, especially for new product launches. Sometimes, the work-life balance gets completely thrown off, and you're working really long days. Work flexibility isn't consistent across all teams in the Lisle, IL office.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize work flexibility options more across different departments and better manage project deadlines to avoid frequent crunch times.
