The MDR Detection Engineer develops, maintains, and validates security detections to improve visibility and ensure accurate threat identification. This role supports proactive threat hunting, works with SOC Analysts on escalations, and contributes to the continuous improvement of MDR detection capabilities.
What You'll Do
Detection Development
- Design, implement, and maintain security detection logic in SIEM and EDR platforms.
- Assist in tuning alerts to reduce false positives and improve accuracy.
- Document detection methodologies and contribute to detection libraries.
Threat Hunting and Analysis
- Conduct proactive hunts to identify undetected threats.
- Analyze security data for patterns, anomalies, and emerging threats.
- Support incident investigations with custom queries and detection content.
Collaboration and Support
- Work closely with SOC Analysts to validate alerts and detections.
- Provide feedback on detection gaps and support cross-team investigations.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve tool efficiency.
What You'll Bring
- 5+ years of experience in a SOC, MDR, or cybersecurity engineering role.
- Experience working with SIEM, EDR, or other security monitoring tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or related field.
- CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or equivalent certification.
- Strong knowledge of log analysis, detection logic, and query writing.
- Familiarity with scripting or query languages (e.g., KQL, SQL, Elastic).
- Ability to investigate anomalies and escalate findings.
- Detail-oriented and analytical.
- Team player with strong communication skills.
- Eager to learn and expand technical detection skills.
- Professional and ethical in handling sensitive data.
