Decent, Stable Place for Defense Work
I've been with Raytheon Australia as a Systems Engineer in the Canberra office for a few years. If you're looking for a big corporate role in the defense industry, this is it. The company culture is what you'd expect: stable but can feel a bit old-school.
There's solid job security working on defense projects, which is a big plus. My engineering team is generally supportive and helpful. The pay and benefits are quite competitive for a major defense contractor.
The company culture feels pretty top-down and can be quite bureaucratic. It's often slow to adapt new ideas, which isn't great for innovation. There's definitely a 'play it safe' mentality that can stifle creativity among teams.
Try to empower teams more and streamline approval processes. Fostering a more dynamic work environment could really boost morale and innovation.
