Decent work-life balance for consulting, but beware.
Pros: As a Junior Consultant, I liked that weekends were mostly protected. We did a lot of work from the New York City office, which helped with routine, and the hybrid model made some days less stressful. There's generally a focus on getting projects done efficiently.
Cons: Work-life balance can still get tough during big client pushes or proposal deadlines; 60-hour weeks aren't uncommon then. For management consulting, there's constant pressure to perform, and vacation time can feel a bit hard to truly disconnect from emails.
Advice to Management: Try to enforce stricter limits on late-night emails, especially on weekends, to truly support the hybrid model and work-life balance. Encourage managers to prioritize team well-being during intense project phases.

Decent pay, tough on work-life balance.
Pros: The pay and benefits are solid for the consulting industry. You also get to work on some really interesting projects, which is a big plus for career growth. As a Management Consultant, I did learn a lot from diverse client engagements.
Cons: Work flexibility is tough to come by. Even with a hybrid work policy, you're expected to be on client sites a lot, especially in the NYC office, making personal life hard to manage. It's not a true remote-friendly setup for client-facing roles.
Advice to Management: Try to set clearer boundaries for client demands. True hybrid work needs more than just an office policy; it needs culture change to support it.

Leadership is a real hit or miss
Pros: Some senior partners are actually pretty good. They really try to mentor you, especially as a new Associate Consultant. You get decent exposure working on various client engagements too.
Cons: But honestly, middle management is where it often falls apart. They sometimes struggle to give clear direction, which makes things tough on projects. Communication from the top also feels pretty spotty for us in the Chicago office.
Advice to Management: Focus on developing stronger communication skills and strategic alignment for your middle managers. Also, ensure consistent mentorship for all junior consultants, not just a few.
