Construction Engineer

Pay's okay, but don't expect big bonuses.
Pros: The basic medical benefits are solid for a mid-sized construction firm in Kuala Lumpur. They do pay out annual leave cash if you don't use it, which is a nice perk for employees.
Cons: The base salary for a Construction Engineer is pretty average, and raises are tough to get. Overtime pay isn't really a thing, even with all the long hours on construction projects. It feels like you're underpaid for the building industry workload.
Advice to Management: Review compensation structure, especially for technical roles like Construction Engineers. More transparent bonus structures would help with retention.

Okay Culture, But Lots of Site Pressure
Pros: People are generally friendly, especially within your project team. There's a solid sense of camaraderie on site, which helps a lot when you're dealing with tough deadlines in civil engineering projects. For a mid-sized firm in Kuala Lumpur, they do try to keep things positive.
Cons: The company culture gets tough during crunch times. It's really common for site work to demand extremely long hours, which can burn people out. There's not much flexibility for onsite Project Engineer roles, and that impacts overall morale.
Advice to Management: Try to recognize and reward teams more for overcoming project challenges, not just hitting deadlines. Also, look into better ways to manage the workload for site personnel to avoid constant burnout.

Long hours hit hard in construction
Pros: The team on site is pretty solid. We really help each other out when things get rough. You learn a lot about hands-on building projects, which is great experience as a Site Supervisor.
Cons: Work-life balance here isn't good. I'm often working 60-hour weeks. There's almost no flexibility, especially with tight project deadlines in the construction industry.
Advice to Management: Try to staff projects better to avoid burnout. Consider offering some flexibility for office days for construction project managers when not on site.
