Junior Engineer

Leadership is okay, some good, some bad.
Pros: I learned a lot working on diverse environmental consulting projects. The senior engineers are generally very supportive and willing to teach, especially in the Guelph office. Good work culture among peers.
Cons: Leadership can be a bit slow on decision-making for growth and career progression. Sometimes it feels like they don't quite get the day-to-day for us working on the ground. The pay for Junior Engineer roles isn't super competitive for a mid-sized engineering firm.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent about career paths and growth opportunities. It'd help a lot for employee retention, especially for the younger engineers.

Good environmental consulting work, but slow growth
Pros: I've learned a ton working on different environmental consulting projects. The technical challenges in areas like wind engineering are really engaging. My colleagues in the Guelph office are generally great, and we collaborate well.
Cons: Career growth as a Consultant here can feel pretty stagnant. It's tough to see a clear path for advancement, even after a few years. For a mid-sized engineering firm, the progression isn't always as fast as I'd hoped.

Pay's okay, but benefits are solid here
Pros: The health benefits are genuinely good, which is a big plus. As a Junior Environmental Consultant, I really appreciate the dental and vision coverage. For a mid-sized engineering firm, the stability of those benefits feels secure.
Cons: The base salary isn't always competitive for environmental consulting roles, especially in the Guelph office. I feel like new hires could get more, even with hybrid work options. There aren't many bonus opportunities beyond the standard annual review.
Advice to Management: Review salary bands for entry and mid-level positions. Make sure compensation is competitive for environmental consulting roles in this market.

Hybrid model is okay, but could be better
Pros: The hybrid work option is a solid perk. I can do my WFH days easily from home, which helps a lot with balancing personal life. This is great for environmental engineering tasks that don't need specific lab access.
Cons: True flexibility for consulting roles can be tough here. Sometimes project deadlines mean really long hours, and those WFH days feel less flexible. It's not always easy to adjust my schedule once projects get going, even in the Guelph office.
Advice to Management: Try to empower teams more to manage their own schedules, especially when project timelines fluctuate. More trust in employees to deliver remotely could really help work-life balance for those in environmental engineering.

Decent place, but leadership could improve for Engineers
Pros: I appreciate the challenging projects in wind engineering and building science. My direct team lead in the Guelph office was fantastic and supportive, which really helped my development as an Engineer. The hybrid model allows for some work-life flexibility.
Cons: Senior leadership often feels disconnected from the day-to-day work. It's hard to get clear answers on career growth, and sometimes management decisions for engineering roles seem a bit arbitrary. This can be frustrating for a consulting firm of this size.
Advice to Management: Improve communication from the executive level. Create more transparent career progression frameworks for technical staff, specifically for engineers, and invest in better training for middle management.

Leadership is a Mixed Bag Here
Pros: I really appreciated the hybrid work flexibility; it made balancing life and work much easier. Some team leads are fantastic, providing solid support for complex environmental consulting projects.
Cons: Senior leadership often feels disconnected from the actual project delivery. Decision-making for big company changes at this mid-sized engineering firm can be slow and unclear. It's tough to see a clear strategic vision sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to be more present and transparent with the project teams. Clearer communication from the top on company direction would help everyone.

Decent balance, but project deadlines can hit hard
Pros: The flexible WFH options are a huge plus for sure, especially for someone in an engineering role like mine. My team in the Guelph, Ontario office was pretty understanding about personal needs. It's not always 60-hour weeks like some other environmental consulting firms.
Cons: Project deadlines can be super tight, which impacts how much personal time I actually have. Sometimes I felt like I was constantly checking emails, especially when we had a big wind engineering project. There's definitely a lot of pressure to deliver fast, which can make it tough to really disconnect.
Advice to Management: Focus on more realistic project timelines. Help managers shield their teams from constant deadline creep so we don't burn out.

Leadership is Decent, But Inconsistent
Pros: I really liked my direct team leads; they were supportive, especially in the Guelph office. The project work in environmental engineering is genuinely interesting and keeps you learning.
Cons: Upper management decisions sometimes felt out of touch with what we were doing onsite. There isn't much clear communication from leadership regarding career growth or overall company direction for these engineering roles.
Advice to Management: Work on better communication from senior leadership down to the teams. More transparency on company goals and clearer paths for career development would really help people feel valued.

Leadership is decent but needs improvement
Pros: As an Environmental Consultant here, I've seen some good technical leadership on complex engineering projects. There's usually solid support if you need help with challenging building sciences assignments. Our team leads are pretty knowledgeable about the work.
Cons: Upper management in the Guelph, Ontario office can be a bit out of touch with daily operational issues. Sometimes it feels like they don't really listen to feedback from junior staff. It's tough to get clear direction on career paths within this mid-sized firm.
Advice to Management: Try to connect more with staff below the director level. More transparency on career growth opportunities would be a big help.
