Work-Life Balance is a Real Push-Pull
Pros: When projects aren't in crunch mode, the remote work flexibility is really good. You can manage your own time well. The compensation for senior engineer roles is also quite competitive, which helps soften the blow of long hours sometimes.
Cons: Work-life balance can get tough fast, especially for Senior Software Engineer roles during big product releases or major incidents in IT operations management. Expect 50-60 hour weeks frequently. Weekend work isn't uncommon, and it's hard to truly disconnect.
Advice to Management: Management needs to better manage project scopes and resource allocation. We need clearer boundaries on work hours, especially for remote teams. More focus on preventing burnout for the engineering staff would go a long way.

Okay for Stability, Not Much Growth
Pros: It's a stable company, which is good for job security. I've learned a lot about IT Service Management and the BMC Helix platform. The remote work setup from Texas is pretty flexible, which helps with work-life balance.
Cons: Honestly, career growth isn't great here for a Software Engineer. There aren't many clear paths to move up, and promotions are really slow. It often feels more like a maintenance role than innovation, which can be tough.
Advice to Management: Focus on creating clearer paths for internal advancement, especially for technical roles. Invest more in employee development and promote innovation to keep people engaged and growing.

Technical Support Engineer

Work-life balance is okay, but can vary a lot.
Pros: As a Technical Support Engineer, I've found the remote work setup pretty good for managing daily life. Most weeks I can stick to a regular schedule, which is a big plus. It's a decent corporate structure that values WFH flexibility for its employees.
Cons: However, dealing with critical IT Service Management issues means some weeks are super intense. On-call rotations can really mess with your evenings and weekends, especially supporting complex enterprise software. It's not always easy to disconnect when client issues come up.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage on-call demands and customer expectations, so front-line engineers don't burn out as quickly.
