Pros: I've been a Project Engineer at bp for a few years now, based in Houston. It's a really stable multinational energy company, which I appreciate. The teams are usually very collaborative, and you get to work on some genuinely big, impactful projects within the energy industry. There are solid learning opportunities, especially if you're keen to develop your technical skills. I like the hybrid work model; it gives me good work flexibility to balance things.
Cons: Career growth can feel a bit slow sometimes; it's a big organization with a lot of experienced people. You really have to be proactive about seeking out your next steps. The approval processes can also be a bit bureaucratic, which occasionally slows things down on projects, especially when dealing with multiple stakeholders. Improving internal communication across different departments would definitely help streamline workflows.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining some of the internal approval processes and continue to invest in clear, cross-departmental communication to accelerate project execution and reduce bottlenecks.
