Pros: You do get some wiggle room for personal appointments, which is nice. For us Automation Engineer roles, managers generally try to accommodate if you're not actively on an onsite project in Penang, Malaysia. There's potential for hybrid work when design phases allow.
Cons: Work flexibility is tough when project deadlines hit or for critical onsite commissioning. You just can't be remote for those essential tasks in industrial automation. It's often an expectation to be physically present, limiting real work from home options for many engineering roles.
Advice to Management: Keep looking for ways to offer more flexibility for project-based roles, especially during non-critical phases. It would really help with employee retention in our competitive industrial automation industry.
