Long Hours for Dedicated Animal Care Professionals
Pros: I loved working with the animals, that's a huge plus. My direct team at our Austin, TX clinic was super supportive. We really helped each other out during crazy emergency shifts.
Cons: The work-life balance is pretty rough for a Veterinary Technician. You're often doing 10-12 hour shifts, and it's hard to get days off. There's not enough staff, so overtime is common, which impacts personal time a lot. This is pretty typical for the corporate vet group model.
Advice to Management: Please invest more in staffing to reduce burnout, especially for your onsite veterinary professionals. Respect personal time and try to offer more consistent schedules to improve work-life balance across the clinics.
