Good Place to Start in Sales Merchandising
Pros: Great pay and benefits for a Sales and Merchandising Specialist. Allowances help a lot with field expenses, which is a big plus for field-based roles. I also appreciate the stable job environment and the supportive team culture. There are good opportunities to learn about various FMCG products and market trends, which is valuable for career development in the retail industry.
Cons: Approval processes for certain store initiatives can sometimes be a bit slow, which can hinder quick strategy implementation. Also, I feel that clearer pathways for career progression to higher management roles could be established and potentially accelerated for high-performing individuals.
Advice to Management: I'd suggest management takes a closer look at streamlining the internal approval processes to help us implement strategies faster in the field. Also, clearer pathways for career advancement within the Sales and Merchandising Specialist roles, perhaps with mentorship programs, would be highly beneficial for employee retention and motivation.

Field Merchandising is Tough Here
Pros: As a Merchandising Specialist, you do get a good amount of autonomy. It's nice not being micromanaged during daily routes for this mid-sized company. Work-life balance can be decent if you manage your territory efficiently.
Cons: The expectations for daily store visits are pretty high. You often work over 40 hours a week, especially in retail merchandising. Weekend work isn't uncommon during promotions, which eats into personal time.
Advice to Management: Consider better staffing for territories to reduce the pressure on individual Merchandising Specialists. More predictable schedules for promotions would help with planning personal time for your field-based employees.

Pay is alright, but benefits need a boost
Pros: The base salary for a merchandising specialist is competitive enough for the Dallas, TX area. If you hit your sales targets, the commission structure can really make a difference. It's an onsite job, so you know what to expect.
Cons: The health benefits are pretty weak, honestly. There's not much of a 401k match, which is a bummer for long-term savings. Raises for most sales roles are tough to come by, even with good performance.
Advice to Management: Look into improving the healthcare plans and offer a better 401k match. Regular performance-based raises would really help retention for your sales team.
