Decent Work-Life, But Can Be Stressed
Pros: As an Administrative Assistant, my hours are usually pretty standard, around 40 hours a week. It's an onsite role in Riverside, CA, so there's a clear separation from home. The benefits for higher education are solid too.
Cons: During peak times like registration or the end of the semester, it's really tough. The workload for student services can get overwhelming, and you can't really WFH when you're needed in the office.
Advice to Management: Try to staff up more during the busiest parts of the academic calendar to ease the load on core administrative staff. Support for onsite roles during high-stress periods would help a lot.

Stable job, but career path is super slow
Pros: The benefits are a big plus for an academic institution. The work environment in the Riverside, CA office is pretty stable, and you get to work with some really dedicated students. As an Academic Advisor, the day-to-day is generally predictable.
Cons: Career growth here is tough for support staff roles like mine. There's no clear path for an Academic Advisor to move up, and promotions often feel like they take forever. It can feel like a dead end if you're ambitious.
Advice to Management: Create clearer pathways for advancement, especially for support staff roles in higher education. Regular performance reviews should include development goals and a transparent promotion process.
