Decent Pay for a Public Sector Role
Pros: As an Assistant Manager at EDB, the base salary is pretty decent for a government agency in Singapore. The benefits package is solid, especially the annual bonus and comprehensive healthcare coverage. You get good job stability working in the public sector.
Cons: Salary progression can feel slow, especially when you compare it to private sector jobs, even for similar economic development or investment promotion roles. Don't expect massive year-on-year raises; it's stable, but you might hit a pay ceiling faster than you'd like.
Advice to Management: Consider reviewing salary benchmarks more frequently to remain competitive, especially for roles involved in high-impact economic strategy. Retaining top talent in Singapore's competitive market is key.

Okay flexibility, depends on your team
Pros: We do have hybrid work options here at the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), which is good for personal appointments. Generally, as an Assistant Manager, I get two days WFH a week, which helps balance things out.
Cons: That hybrid flexibility really varies by team and your immediate boss, so it's not consistent across the government agency. Sometimes you have to be in the Singapore office for certain meetings, even if it's your WFH day. Onsite expectations can be high.
Advice to Management: Standardize the hybrid work policy across all departments and teams. It'd make things fairer for everyone in this public sector role.

Solid Stability in Singapore's Public Service
Pros: It's a really stable gig, especially for anyone in a Senior Executive role here. Working in a government agency like EDB means job security is pretty much guaranteed, which is a big relief. The benefits package for the public service is also decent, making it a reliable career choice in Singapore.
Cons: Sometimes the pace feels a bit slower than the private sector, and things can get quite bureaucratic. Career growth for an Executive isn't always super fast, so you might need patience. Innovation can be tough with so many processes to follow.
Advice to Management: Consider ways to streamline processes and encourage more agile project execution within the economic development teams. A clearer, more dynamic career path for Executives would also help with talent retention.
