Software Engineer

Leadership has some good points, but needs more
Pros: My direct managers are usually solid. They support us well in the San Francisco office for our day-to-day software development tasks. Plus, the benefits for a big tech company are pretty good.
Cons: Upper leadership can feel really out of touch sometimes. Their decisions aren't always clear, and it impacts motivation across the tech industry. It's tough to get real transparency about strategic shifts.
Advice to Management: Focus on clearer communication from the top. Be more transparent about big decisions and how they affect teams in the tech industry, especially with the hybrid model. It would really help build more trust and alignment across the company.

Leadership is okay, room for improvement
Pros: My direct manager was solid, really supportive. You get decent mentorship in some teams, which helps with career growth for junior engineers in the cybersecurity solutions space.
Cons: Senior leadership often feels disconnected from the day-to-day work, especially for us in the New York City office. Decisions come from the top without much input, making it tough as a Software Engineer when priorities change.
Advice to Management: Try to be more visible and transparent with the teams. Get feedback from employees, especially those working in product development for cybersecurity solutions. It would help build more trust.

Job security at SHIELD isn't great.
Pros: If you can survive the cuts, the pay is solid for the cybersecurity industry. There are some good projects too, helping you build experience as a Security Analyst.
Cons: The biggest issue is job security. Layoffs are a yearly thing here, often impacting people in remote roles and in specific departments. It's hard to feel secure.
Advice to Management: Please try to give employees more stability. The constant fear of job loss makes it tough to focus and really commit to big projects. Transparency around organizational changes would help.

Okay Remote Options, but Some Catch
Pros: I really liked the ability to work remote from Texas as a Data Analyst. It saved me a lot on commute time and housing costs. For most days, I had a good WFH setup and my immediate team was solid with flexible hours.
Cons: Leadership wasn't always consistent across departments with flexibility. Sometimes, there'd be last-minute demands to come into an office for 'collaboration' even if you're a remote employee. It felt like some managers in the cybersecurity division just didn't get it.
Advice to Management: Standardize WFH policies across all departments, especially for remote employees. Managers need more training on how to lead distributed teams effectively without forcing unnecessary office visits.
