Company Reviews

To enhance healthcare for residents in the eastern part of Singapore, SingHealth is developing the new Eastern General Hospital (EGH), an acute general hospital focused on providing person-centred care to patients and the community. EGH will be located next to the Bedok North MRT station (Downtown Line), bounded by Bedok Reservoir Road and Bedok North Road.

When our hospital is ready around 2029 - 2030, it will provide a comprehensive range of clinical specialties and healthcare services covering the spectrum of acute and secondary care including emergency, inpatient and outpatient specialist services.

We will also work closely with Eastern Community Hospital (ECH), a community hospital on the same healthcare campus that will provide continuing care, rehabilitative care and palliative care services. Together, EGH and ECH – collectively known as the EGH Campus – aims to help patients get well and seamlessly re-integrate back home, as well as empower the community to better manage their health.

Solid hospital, job security is great for nurses
Pros: Job security is a huge plus here, especially as a Registered Nurse. You really don't have to worry about layoffs in this large hospital setting. The benefits package is pretty decent for the healthcare industry in Boston, too.
Cons: The work-life balance can be tough with constant shift work. Sometimes the staffing feels a bit thin, which adds stress during patient care. Management can be hit or miss depending on your specific unit.
Advice to Management: Please look into better staffing models for the nursing teams. More consistent scheduling would also really help with employee morale and retention.

Tough Hours, But Some Decent Perks
Pros: I liked the team on my floor; they're supportive, which helps a lot during tough shifts. For nursing roles, they do offer some flexibility to trade shifts, which is a big help for my personal schedule. It's a solid healthcare system overall, and patient care is a priority.
Cons: The work-life balance here is honestly pretty bad, especially with the mandatory overtime for Registered Nurses. You're often working 12-hour onsite shifts, and it's hard to make plans outside of work. Staffing levels are often stretched thin in this Boston, MA hospital, which adds to the stress.
Advice to Management: Management needs to seriously address staffing shortages to improve work-life balance for nursing staff. Reduce mandatory overtime and invest more in hiring.

Pay's okay, but could be better for a hospital
Pros: The health insurance benefits are solid, which is a huge plus in healthcare. Retirement plan matching starts fairly quickly, which is decent. As a Registered Nurse, the PTO accrual is actually pretty good after your first year.
Cons: Starting salaries for nurses in Boston, MA feel quite low for what you're expected to do. Raises aren't very impactful, making it tough to keep up with cost of living. Don't expect big bonuses; they're rare here at Eastern General Hospital.
Advice to Management: Seriously re-evaluate the compensation structure for frontline staff, especially nurses. Competitive pay in Boston, MA is crucial for retaining talent.
