Pros: I've really appreciated my time at ALS as an Environmental Scientist. The colleagues are genuinely supportive, creating a good working environment within the testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) industry. There's solid work flexibility which helps a lot with balancing life outside work. I've gained valuable technical skills and feel secure in my role, which is a major positive.
Cons: Career progression can feel a bit slow for an Environmental Scientist, which means you sometimes have to wait for opportunities. The internal processes can also be somewhat bureaucratic, occasionally slowing down project timelines. Better inter-departmental communication would also be helpful for smoother operations.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining internal processes to reduce bureaucracy and improve communication channels between departments. Implement a clearer path for career advancement and professional development for Environmental Scientists to retain talent.

Pros: For a Lab Analyst, some departments in the Raleigh, NC office do offer decent flexibility with shift swaps if you plan ahead. I've seen some success with that, especially outside of peak environmental testing seasons. It's an onsite role, so you know what you're getting.
Cons: Work flexibility for most of us is pretty limited. You're expected to be on-site at specific times for samples and instrumentation, which is tough. There's not much room for hybrid or WFH arrangements in this corporate setting.
Advice to Management: Management should look into ways to offer more flexibility for Lab Analyst roles, perhaps with more formalized shift rotation options or specific days for administrative tasks that could be done remotely, even if it's an onsite job.

Pros: The team culture among fellow Laboratory Technicians is solid; everyone helps out with sample processing. You'll learn a ton if you're new to environmental analysis, which is great for building experience in lab roles.
Cons: The company culture from top management feels a bit old-school and rigid. Work-life balance is tough with fixed onsite schedules and not much flexibility for technicians. Sometimes management doesn't really get our day-to-day lab challenges.
Advice to Management: Improve communication with lab staff and recognize their hard work more. Consider modernizing the corporate culture to retain talent in analytical testing. More flexibility would help with employee morale.
