Okay work-life for underwriters, can be busy
Pros: As an Underwriter here, I generally had decent hours. The hybrid model helps a lot, letting you work from home a couple of days. It's not a crazy startup pace, more of a stable insurance industry rhythm in the Singapore office.
Cons: Sometimes projects pile up, and you do end up working late. Deadlines for the Singapore office can be tight, especially towards quarter-end. Don't expect super flexible hours during peak periods in this corporate environment.
Advice to Management: Try to better distribute workloads, especially for underwriting teams. More support during busy periods would make a big difference.

Hybrid work is decent, but could be more flexible
Pros: The hybrid model is a decent start, allowing some WFH days. As an Actuarial Analyst, not being onsite every day is a plus for focused work. It's a stable corporate environment in the insurance industry.
Cons: Still feels like they track WFH days too closely in the Singapore office. Doesn't feel truly flexible; it's more about mandatory in-office minimums. Sometimes, there's a push for unnecessary in-person meetings.
Advice to Management: Give teams more autonomy on WFH days. Trust your employees to get the work done, regardless of location. True flexibility would boost morale and attract top talent.

Stable enough in the insurance game
Pros: The job security for insurance professionals, especially in a large corporate like Sompo Asia Pacific, feels pretty decent. They're a global insurer, so there's a certain stability that comes with that. You don't see massive layoffs constantly.
Cons: Sometimes changes happen fast, especially in response to the reinsurance market. This can make some roles feel a bit less secure depending on market shifts. It's not a startup, but restructuring can happen, which is tough.
Advice to Management: Keep communicating changes clearly and proactively. When market conditions shift, it helps everyone understand the big picture and their role in it. Transparency really makes a difference for morale.
