Solid Industry Role with Great Benefits and Stability
Pros: I've been with KONE as a Field Service Technician for a while now, and it's a really stable place to work in the elevator and escalator industry. The pay is competitive, and the health benefits and 401k are pretty solid for a global engineering and service company. I appreciate the job security, especially being an onsite technician. My colleagues are usually pretty supportive, and there are good training opportunities to keep your technical skills sharp.
Cons: The biggest drawback is that career growth can feel a bit slow sometimes; promotions don't always happen as quickly as you'd like. There are also moments, especially when on-call, that can stretch your work-life balance thin. Some of the internal administrative processes could be streamlined to make things a little smoother for us out in the field.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining administrative tasks for field technicians to reduce time spent on paperwork. Also, consider clearer and more frequent communication on career progression paths to motivate employees and improve retention.

Stable Company with Good Opportunities and Supportive Teams
Pros: Working as a Project Manager at KONE in the elevator and escalator industry has been a solid experience. I appreciate the strong job security and global company resources. The Chicago team is supportive, offering learning opportunities and a clear focus on safety culture. It's a stable environment for career development.
Cons: The main drawback is that career progression can sometimes feel slow. Also, as a large global engineering company, some internal processes can be a bit bureaucratic, which occasionally impacts project timelines. Overall, though, the positives definitely outweigh these minor issues for me.
Advice to Management: Streamline internal approval processes and review career progression paths to ensure timely advancement opportunities for employees.

Decent Pay for Field Techs, Benefits Just Okay
Pros: As a Field Service Technician, the hourly wage is pretty competitive for the elevator and escalator industry. You get a company vehicle, which saves on gas and wear and tear. The 401k match is solid after you've been there a bit.
Cons: Health insurance premiums are super high, especially if you have a family. Raises aren't amazing; they're usually just cost-of-living adjustments. The bonus structure isn't very transparent for us **onsite** roles.
Advice to Management: Look into ways to lower health insurance costs for employees. Make the bonus system clearer for field service roles, as transparency goes a long way.

Decent but tough on flexibility for field roles
Pros: The job security is pretty solid in the building solutions industry. We have good benefits, and you get decent training for elevator maintenance and repair. It's a stable corporate company.
Cons: Work flexibility as a Field Service Technician is low. You're pretty much always on call, which messes with work-life balance. Remote work isn't an option for these roles, naturally.
Advice to Management: Management should look into better scheduling tools or more regional support to ease the burden on field service technicians. Even small improvements in call rotation could make a big difference for work-life balance.

Decent job security for the right role
Pros: KONE is a big player in the elevator industry, so there's usually a steady demand for service work. As a Field Service Technician, you feel pretty secure. It's stable work, especially for onsite work in Chicago.
Cons: Job security for corporate and office roles seems less certain. I saw a lot of reorganizations that impacted other departments. They don't always invest enough in career growth, so it can feel like a dead end.
Advice to Management: Try to provide more clarity and stability for your non-field employees. Investing in their growth could help with retention. Don't just focus on cutting costs.

Leadership is a Mixed Bag at KONE
Pros: Local team leads are generally supportive, especially when you're out in the field. There's decent job security in the elevator and escalator industry. You learn a lot about the technical aspects of maintenance.
Cons: Upper management sometimes feels really disconnected from the onsite realities. Decisions often get made without understanding how it impacts Field Service Technician roles. Communication from the top can be pretty vague for those of us working onsite.
Advice to Management: Listen more to the people actually doing the work, especially those in onsite roles. Improve communication from corporate down to the field teams; it would help a lot with morale and efficiency.

On-Call Schedule Makes Work-Life Balance Tough
Pros: When you're not on-call, the work-life balance here is pretty decent. As a Field Service Technician, I usually have a predictable schedule for my elevator and escalator maintenance routes. It's a stable job in a necessary industry.
Cons: The biggest issue is the on-call rotation. It seriously impacts your personal life, making it hard to plan things on evenings and weekends. Being in an onsite role in the Chicago branch means commute times and service calls can really extend your day.
Advice to Management: Consider revising the on-call schedule for field service operations. It's really hard on the technicians and impacts morale. Better compensation for those on-call hours could also help.

Solid Job in Field Service, Culture is Okay
Pros: I've been a Field Service Technician here for years. The job security is strong in the vertical transportation industry. You learn a lot about elevator and escalator maintenance. The pay is decent, especially with overtime for maintenance contracts.
Cons: The corporate culture can be a bit slow to change. There's not much flexibility for field roles. Sometimes it feels like decisions come from way up, not from the people doing the actual work. It's a big corporate company, so things move slowly.
Advice to Management: Listen more to the field teams. Empower local managers to make quicker decisions. Improve communication about company-wide changes.

Steady Job if You Don't Mind the Pace
Pros: As a Field Service Technician at KONE, the job security is definitely there. There's always work in the elevator industry, so you won't worry about layoffs. It's a solid, corporate environment.
Cons: Getting ahead is tough for field roles. Promotions don't come around often, and there's not much of a clear path for career growth beyond being an on-site technician. Management could do more for internal development.
Advice to Management: Invest more in creating clearer career paths for field employees. Help us see what's next after years as a technician.

Leadership Can Be Inconsistent for Project Managers
Pros: You learn a ton about complex elevator and escalator solutions here. The company provides pretty solid benefits, which is nice for a large corporate environment. Some of the senior leadership genuinely cares about your growth.
Cons: There's often inconsistent direction from management, especially with project timelines. It feels like some leaders micromanage more than empower their Field Project Managers. Career growth can feel slow if you're not in the right clique.
Advice to Management: Work on consistent communication across leadership tiers. Empower your project managers to make decisions instead of micromanaging.
