Leadership at Hill Dickinson Can Be Hit or Miss
Pros: You get a lot of autonomy as a solicitor, which is great for developing your practice. Some partners are genuinely good mentors, offering solid guidance and support for career growth in the legal industry.
Cons: Leadership can be pretty inconsistent between different teams in the Liverpool office. It feels like some partners are too hands-off, and the overall strategic direction for mid-level associates isn't always clear.
Advice to Management: Try to standardize leadership expectations and offer more support for partners to develop their management skills. Clearer communication about company strategy would also really help all associates feel more aligned.

Work-life balance is tough but manageable
Pros: As a Solicitor, I've had some really good training here. The hybrid model in the London office helps a bit, giving some flexibility. You also get decent exposure to complex legal cases.
Cons: Work-life balance can still be a huge struggle, especially around deal closing. Long hours are just expected in this legal sector. You often feel pressure to be 'always on', even with hybrid work.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage taking actual breaks and truly disconnecting. The 'always on' culture is draining for many of us.

Leadership can be a mixed bag here
Pros: Direct managers are usually supportive and give good guidance. You can learn a lot from senior partners if you're proactive, especially within your specific legal practice area. There's a decent structure for development for newer solicitors.
Cons: Overall strategic vision from top leadership feels a bit unclear at times. Communication about important firm decisions can be slow and not always transparent, which is tough for Associate Solicitor roles. It sometimes feels like decisions are made far above your head without much explanation.
Advice to Management: Senior leadership needs to communicate firm strategy more clearly and frequently. More transparency on big decisions would really help morale across all levels, especially for those of us working in the hybrid model.
