Work-Life Balance is Okay, But It's a Push
Pros: The work itself is usually pretty engaging, especially with the large infrastructure projects we handle in environmental consulting. I appreciate the hybrid work option; it gives a bit more flexibility, which helps with commuting to the London office a few times a week.
Cons: It's tough to maintain a good work-life balance here. As an Environmental Engineer, I often found myself working really long hours, especially when project deadlines hit hard. It feels like there's always a new urgent task, which can be draining.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage workload distribution across engineering teams. It would help a lot if there was more support during peak project times to prevent burnout.

Decent Pay, Benefits Could Use a Boost
Pros: The base salary for Environmental Consultant roles is actually quite competitive in the UK operations. I've found it's a solid rate for a large consulting firm. They also do a decent job with annual bonuses if projects perform well.
Cons: The benefits package isn't as robust as I'd like. Things like health insurance and retirement contributions feel pretty standard, not really standout. It would be great to see more investment in these areas, especially for those working on complex infrastructure projects.
Advice to Management: Look into enhancing the benefits package. Offering better health plans or more generous retirement matching would really boost morale and make Binnies more competitive for top talent in the environmental consulting field.

Decent Work-Life Balance for Junior Roles
Pros: For a junior environmental engineer, the work-life balance isn't bad. The hybrid work arrangement in the Manchester office really helps with commuting. Most of the time, I wasn't pulling crazy hours like I've heard about at other consulting firms in the water industry.
Cons: Project deadlines can sometimes be brutal, and you're expected to just get it done, no matter what. There's definitely an expectation to be available, and you see senior staff working really long days. It's not always easy to truly switch off, even with WFH.
Advice to Management: Try to protect junior staff from constant deadline crunch. More clear boundaries on 'after hours' work would really improve morale.
