Great Place to Learn and Grow in Accounting
Pros: I've really enjoyed my time here as a Junior Accountant. The team is incredibly supportive, especially when you're just starting out in the accounting industry. There are plenty of opportunities to learn from senior staff and get exposure to various client projects, which is great for career development. It's a stable work environment, which provides good job security for a growing professional. Colleagues are always willing to help out, fostering a collaborative atmosphere.
Cons: While there's a lot of learning, sometimes the pace can be demanding, especially during peak tax season or audit periods. It can impact work-life balance briefly. Also, the promotion process feels a bit slow compared to some other firms, so you have to be patient for that next step.
Advice to Management: Consider clearer communication around career progression paths to help employees understand promotion timelines and expectations better, especially for junior roles.

Okay Flexibility, But It Really Depends
Pros: As an Audit Associate, I appreciated the option for hybrid work at YFL. Some managers are super understanding about personal appointments, which is good for a mid-sized accounting firm. You can usually work from home a couple days a week.
Cons: The flexibility isn't consistent across all teams or during peak times like tax season. Sometimes you're expected onsite for client deadlines in the Toronto office, no questions asked. It can be tough to plan your week sometimes.
Advice to Management: Standardize the WFH policy across all audit teams. It shouldn't just be up to individual managers. Invest more in manager training for supporting flexible schedules and managing during tax season.
