Culture's fine, but a bit slow-paced.
Pros: You get pretty solid job security here, which is nice. The benefits package for us Software Engineers is decent, and it's a very corporate environment with established processes. Working on applications for laboratory instruments was interesting.
Cons: The company culture feels pretty old-school and slow. Innovation isn't really a priority, which can be tough for a Software Engineer looking to build new things. There's not much encouragement for new ideas or risk-taking in this big corporate setting.
Advice to Management: Try to foster more innovation and empower teams to take calculated risks. Update the approach to culture to attract and retain modern talent, especially for technical roles in the Columbus, Ohio office.

Leadership can be a real mixed bag
Pros: The pay and benefits are pretty solid for a large corporate company in the **precision instruments** industry. I also had some great teammates in the **Columbus office**. There's good job stability here if you're looking for that.
Cons: Leadership above the team level often lacked a clear direction for **Software Engineers**. It felt like strategies changed a lot, making it hard to see long-term project goals. This really impacted how much growth I felt I could achieve.
Advice to Management: Upper management needs to improve communication and provide a more consistent vision for teams. It would help a lot if they empowered mid-level leaders more to make decisions.

Demanding Field Role, Decent Pay
Pros: For a Field Service Technician role, the pay is solid, and you get decent benefits. They provide a company vehicle, which is a huge plus for all the travel involved with repairing laboratory equipment. The team in the Columbus, Ohio region was pretty supportive.
Cons: Work-life balance here is tough. You're often expected to be available for urgent customer site visits outside standard hours, fixing scientific instruments. The travel for this global company really eats into your personal time, sometimes feeling like 50-60 hour weeks.
Advice to Management: Try to staff more technicians to lessen the on-call burden. Give us clearer scheduling guidelines for customer site visits to help us plan our personal lives better.

Decent place for stability, not huge growth
Pros: You get solid experience working on a variety of precision instruments and industrial scales. The job security for Field Service Technician roles is pretty high. They have good benefits.
Cons: Career growth for individual contributors, especially in the field, feels really slow. There aren't many clear paths upwards or opportunities for professional development past a certain point. Promotions are rare and often require relocation or moving into management.
Advice to Management: Create clearer career progression paths for Field Service Technicians, not just management. Offer more advanced technical training or specialized certifications in areas like laboratory equipment or specific industrial scales to encourage skill development and internal promotion.

Culture needs a refresh, but it's stable
Pros: You get solid benefits, and job security is good. As a Service Engineer, I always had work, which is great. It's a well-established player in industrial weighing solutions.
Cons: The company culture in the Columbus, Ohio office felt pretty rigid. There wasn't much room for new ideas or quick changes. Even in a hybrid model, flexibility was hard to come by.
Advice to Management: Try to foster a more open and collaborative culture. Listen to the folks on the ground for process improvements. Break down some of those departmental silos.

Solid job security, but growth is slow.
Pros: If you're looking for stability, this is it. Working as a Service Technician here means consistent work in the precision instruments industry. It's a large corporate company, so job cuts aren't a constant worry.
Cons: Career progression is really slow for field roles. You can feel stuck in your current position for years. Raises are pretty modest, so don't expect big jumps in salary.
Advice to Management: Management should create clearer paths for advancement for their field Service Technicians. It would really help with retention and motivation across the teams.

Decent flexibility for manufacturing roles here
Pros: They're pretty understanding if you need to swap shifts or leave early for an appointment as a Production Associate. The Columbus, Ohio office management usually tries to work with you on schedule changes. It's good for onsite manufacturing when you need a bit of give.
Cons: True remote work isn't really an option for many roles, especially if you're in operations or need hands-on access to equipment. There isn't much work-from-home policy for everyone. It's a pretty rigid schedule overall for most production staff.
Advice to Management: Try to offer more hybrid options for roles that don't absolutely require being onsite. Empower team leads to offer more flexibility where possible for manufacturing staff; it really helps morale.

Tough for Work Flexibility as a Field Tech
Pros: I liked the team I worked with; everyone was pretty helpful. The pay and benefits were decent for a corporate role. Job security feels pretty solid in the measurement systems industry.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't really a thing for us. As a Field Service Technician, you're always onsite or traveling, especially working with lab equipment and calibration. Remote work isn't an option, and the hours can be long.
Advice to Management: Try to find ways to offer some flexibility, even for field roles. Maybe better scheduling tools or more support for travel could help us.

Work-life balance is okay, could be better
Pros: You generally work around 40 hours a week as a Software Engineer. The benefits package is solid, which is a plus. The job security feels really good here, it's a stable global manufacturer in the industrial measurement industry.
Cons: Work-life balance can definitely get tough when big project deadlines hit. There isn't much flexibility if you need to adjust your schedule often. The hybrid model is okay, but it's not truly flexible if you're not in engineering leadership.
Advice to Management: Try to give more leeway with work-life balance during crunch times. Consider modernizing the tech stack for lab equipment software development to boost morale.

Solid Job Security for Field Service Techs
Pros: Job security here is pretty good for field service technician roles. As a global company specializing in precision instruments, there's always work. You don't have to worry much about layoffs, which is a big plus.
Cons: Work-life balance can be tough with all the travel around Columbus, Ohio and the region. Career growth for us service guys isn't super fast either. Sometimes the internal systems feel a bit outdated.
Advice to Management: Invest a bit more in training and career pathing for field service employees. Also, updating some of the internal tech would make things smoother for everyone on the road.
