Job Security is Decent, Projects Fluctuate
Pros: For a Consultant in management consulting, there's usually a project. It's a big firm, so they generally try to keep people staffed, even if it means some internal work.
Cons: Bench time in the New York City office can feel really stressful. If you're not quick to find a new engagement, it feels like your role is on the line. It's tough for newer hires.
Advice to Management: Try to smooth out staffing levels. More transparency on future project pipeline would help reduce consultant anxiety.

Okay Flexibility for Consulting Roles
Pros: The hybrid model is a plus; I appreciate not being in the Chicago office every single day. As a Senior Consultant, I can usually balance client deliverables with my personal life, especially with some WFH.
Cons: Despite the hybrid setup, you're expected to be available constantly for clients. True flexibility can be tough in the consulting industry when project demands are high. Can't always pick your hours.
Advice to Management: Give more autonomy on project scheduling. Managers should really support true WFH when it doesn't impact client work and empower teams.

Work-life balance needs some serious help
Pros: You learn a massive amount in the management consulting industry, which is a huge plus for your career. There's also some flexibility with the hybrid work model, depending on your project team.
Cons: The work-life balance is definitely demanding; 50-60 hour weeks are pretty standard. Expect weekends to get eaten up often, especially before client presentations in the Chicago office.
Advice to Management: I think management needs to staff projects more realistically. People get burnt out when they consistently work 60+ hours; it's not sustainable.
