Great Place for Stability and Flexible Work
Pros: I've been a Chemical Engineer here in Pittsburgh for a while now, and it's been a really stable place to work in the coatings industry. The biggest perk for me is the work flexibility; it's genuinely supported here, which helps a lot with personal commitments. My colleagues are also super supportive, and there are good learning opportunities if you seek them out.
Cons: Career progression can feel a bit slow sometimes, so you need to be patient for promotions. Also, we do have periods where project deadlines can make things pretty busy, but it's usually manageable.
Advice to Management: Continue fostering the flexible work environment and look for ways to streamline career pathing for individual contributors.

Solid Company, Good Benefits for Process Engineers
Pros: I've really valued the competitive pay and solid benefits at PPG, a leader in the coatings industry. It's a stable manufacturing company with good job security. As a Process Engineer in Pittsburgh, PA, I've had supportive colleagues and great learning opportunities in chemical manufacturing.
Cons: Internal processes can feel slow due to bureaucracy, which is pretty typical for a big corporation. While there are opportunities, career advancement can sometimes be a bit gradual.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining some of the internal approval processes to speed up project execution and empower teams further. Also, consider clearer paths for career acceleration for high-performing individual contributors.

Okay work-life, some trade-offs exist
Pros: For most Process Engineer roles, you can often stick to around 40-45 hour weeks. The vacation policy is good, and you get decent benefits. The hybrid work model for the Pittsburgh office is a nice perk for flexibility.
Cons: Work-life balance can get tough when major industrial chemicals projects or plant issues hit. There's pressure to deliver, and some managers expect quick turnarounds. It's not always easy to truly disconnect after hours.
Advice to Management: Try to better manage project scopes and timelines to reduce the need for last-minute pushes. Encourage managers to respect off-hours, especially with the hybrid work setup.
