Decent Work-Life Balance for a Large Corp
Pros: As a Food Scientist, I generally had good access to lab resources in the flavors and colors industry. The company does offer a hybrid model which is a big plus for work flexibility. When deadlines aren't crushing, you can stick to pretty standard 40-hour weeks in the Milwaukee office.
Cons: The work-life balance here can get tough during peak product development cycles. You'll often find yourself staying late or taking work home, especially in the specialty ingredients division. It's not uncommon to feel overwhelmed when multiple projects hit at once.
Advice to Management: Management should work on better project load distribution, especially for R&D teams. It'd help prevent burnout and improve retention in the long run.

Okay pay, benefits could be better for the industry
Pros: The health insurance plans for employees at this established corporate company are pretty decent. There's a good 401k match, which is a big plus for long-term savings in the food and beverage manufacturing industry. You get paid bi-weekly, so cash flow is predictable.
Cons: Base salary for a Food Scientist in the St. Louis office felt low compared to other specialty ingredients firms. Raises aren't very substantial each year, it's tough to really get ahead financially. Bonuses are hit or miss and don't make up for the lower base compensation.
Advice to Management: Review compensation benchmarks for all R&D roles in the flavor industry. Competitive salaries attract and retain top talent.

Okay if you're good with onsite, but not much flex.
Pros: I've learned a ton as an R&D Chemist here, especially working on new flavor and fragrance development. The team in the Milwaukee office is pretty good too, always helping each other out. It's stable work in the specialty ingredients industry.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't really a thing, unfortunately. Most of us are strictly onsite. You can't really WFH when you're doing lab experiments. It makes work-life balance a bit of a challenge sometimes.
Advice to Management: Consider implementing a hybrid model where possible, or offering more flexible hours for roles that don't require constant lab presence. It would really help with employee morale and retention.
