Good Mission, Mixed Bureaucracy
Pros: I've really enjoyed the mission-driven aspect here. As a Program Officer, it's great working on projects that truly impact global health and international development. The Washington D.C. office has a generally supportive team and the hybrid work schedule helps a lot.
Cons: There's a lot of bureaucracy, which can slow things down big time. Sometimes it feels like career growth for international development roles isn't very clear. You can get stuck doing the same things for a while.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining internal processes to reduce bureaucracy. Also, make career progression more transparent, especially for Program Officer positions.

Leadership at FHI 360 is a mixed bag
Pros: You get to contribute to really important public health initiatives, which is incredibly rewarding. Many of the immediate managers are fantastic mentors for anyone in international development roles. There's also solid professional growth if you're proactive.
Cons: The biggest issue is definitely leadership. Senior management feels pretty removed from the daily grind and challenges we face on global development projects. Decisions often come down without much transparency for the teams, and that can be frustrating.
Advice to Management: Try to connect more with the frontline staff. Understand the challenges we face on global development projects. Better communication from the top would help a lot.

Okay Culture, Can Be a Bit Slow
Pros: I appreciated the passion of my colleagues in the Washington D.C. office. Everyone's committed to the public health initiatives. It's a supportive environment for collaborating on global development projects.
Cons: Decision-making as a Program Officer can be really slow. There's a lot of red tape in this large non-profit. Sometimes, innovation feels stifled by processes, which is tough for those looking for agile work.
Advice to Management: Try to streamline some of the internal processes. It would really help empower staff and speed up project execution. More transparency on long-term strategy would also be good.

Good Mission, But Job Security Can Be Tricky
Pros: It's a solid non-profit if you're into social impact. As a Program Manager, I genuinely felt good about contributing to global health initiatives. The mission is truly inspiring, and you work with passionate people.
Cons: Job security is the main concern here. Most Program Manager roles are tied directly to specific grant funding, making it tough when projects end abruptly. It's a common challenge in the international development sector, but it means you're always thinking about the next contract.
Advice to Management: Try to find more ways to transition good staff between projects. Maybe create a small pool for internal talent during funding gaps to improve job security for key contributors.
