Decent benefits, but salary growth is slow
Pros: The health plan here is pretty solid, which is a big deal for employees in Brazil. As a Civil Engineer, the 13th-month salary and vacation bonus are always paid on time. They do offer some good employee discounts and a decent pension plan.
Cons: Base salary for new Civil Engineer roles in the São Paulo office feels a bit low compared to the market for similar corporate engineering firms. Annual raises aren't very competitive, so it's tough to see significant pay growth. There aren't many unique perks beyond the standard benefits you'd expect in the infrastructure consulting industry.
Advice to Management: Management should really look into making base salaries more competitive, especially for experienced Civil Engineer hires in the engineering sector. Regular, meaningful performance-based raises would help retain talent. Consider adding some non-standard benefits to stand out.

Decent place, but leadership needs to step up
Pros: There's good project variety for a Project Analyst. The team I worked with in the São Paulo office was really supportive, and we learned a lot from each other, especially on railway and metro projects.
Cons: Leadership can be a bit disconnected from ground-level work. Communication from upper management isn't always clear, which sometimes causes rework and delays in our transport infrastructure projects. They don't always handle team feedback well.
Advice to Management: Try to listen more to the Project Analyst teams and front-line engineers. Clearer communication about project changes and priorities would help a lot, especially for our major transport infrastructure developments.

Good Start, But Growth Can Be Slow
Pros: You get good exposure to large-scale transportation infrastructure projects early on. It's a solid place to learn the ropes as a Junior Civil Engineer, especially if you're fresh out of university. Senior engineers are generally happy to mentor and help you learn new things on onsite projects.
Cons: Career progression feels pretty slow once you're past the initial learning curve. There isn't a super clear path for promotion or salary bumps within the corporate engineering firm structure. Formal training for advanced specialized civil engineering skills is also quite limited.
Advice to Management: Invest more in a structured career development program for engineers. Create clearer paths for promotion and provide regular, formal training sessions to help us develop specialized skills beyond just on-the-job learning.

Culture is decent, but work-life balance is tough
Pros: For a civil engineer, working on diverse infrastructure projects offers great hands-on experience. You'll definitely learn a lot, and the teams are generally pretty collaborative, which is a plus for new hires.
Cons: The company culture can feel a bit rigid sometimes, making it hard to suggest new ways of doing things. There's not much work flexibility, especially in the São Paulo office, which can be tough for transportation engineering roles needing site visits.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage more innovation from all levels and listen to suggestions from junior staff. Improve work flexibility options, especially for project-based roles.

Solid place for civil engineers, but watch out.
Pros: Job security is a real plus here; they usually have a steady stream of transport infrastructure projects. As a Civil Engineer, I always felt my role was pretty secure, which is nice in the consulting world.
Cons: Career growth can feel really slow sometimes, it's hard to move up. The pay for entry to mid-level engineering roles isn't amazing either. It's a very traditional corporate firm, so not much flexibility.
Advice to Management: Look into clearer paths for career growth and perhaps more competitive pay for experienced engineering staff. Some work flexibility would really help morale.

SYSTRA Brasil: Okay Job Security for Engineers
Pros: It's a big, global firm so there's usually some stability. When we land big infrastructure projects in São Paulo, work is steady. As a Civil Engineer, I felt secure during active project phases.
Cons: Job security can feel project-dependent though. When one big transport consulting gig wraps up, there's always a worry about the next one. It's not always clear if there's a seamless transition for all roles.
Advice to Management: Communicate project pipeline better. Give engineers more clarity on long-term roles beyond current projects.

Work-life balance can be a bit of a juggle
Pros: As a Junior Civil Engineer, I usually had a clear daily routine. There's some flexibility for remote work which helps a lot with the São Paulo commute. The team in the engineering consultancy is generally supportive.
Cons: Project deadlines are often tight, which means working more than 40 hours is common. It's tough to consistently maintain personal plans, especially during peak project phases for engineering roles.
Advice to Management: Try to smooth out project schedules more consistently to avoid last-minute crunches. Better planning would really help with employee work-life balance for all the engineering teams.

Culture is okay, depends on your team here
Pros: As a Civil Engineer, I've seen some solid team collaboration. People genuinely try to help each other out. For engineering consulting, the São Paulo office offers decent hybrid work options. It's not fully remote, but it helps.
Cons: The company culture really varies by project and management. Some teams are great, others are totally siloed. Internal communication is often messy, especially between different departments. It's hard to get a clear picture sometimes.
Advice to Management: Leadership really needs to work on standardizing the company culture across all teams. Invest in better internal communication tools and leadership training, especially for project managers.

Decent balance, but project phases get intense
Pros: You generally get your 40 hours during non-peak times. The São Paulo office is pretty good, and it's a solid place to learn for a Junior Civil Engineer.
Cons: When project deadlines hit, work-life balance tanks. Long hours are expected for engineering roles, and it's tough to truly disconnect from infrastructure projects. They need to manage project loads better.
Advice to Management: Look at staffing during peak project phases. Help engineering teams manage workloads so we don't burn out.

Job Security Can Be a Bit Shaky Here
Pros: As a Civil Engineer, the project work in transport infrastructure is really interesting. You get to work on some big projects, which is great for experience. The São Paulo office has a decent team vibe when things are busy.
Cons: Job security isn't the best, especially when project phases wrap up or new contracts are delayed. There's often uncertainty for engineering consultants between big engagements. I've seen good people let go, which makes everyone a little nervous.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent about the project pipeline and future staffing needs. More consistent communication could help ease worries about job security for employees in the corporate environment.
