Great mission, solid benefits, good place to grow
Pros: As a Software Engineer at Axon, the mission to serve public safety is incredibly motivating. The compensation and benefits, especially health and 401k, are truly excellent for the tech industry. I appreciate the supportive team culture and the opportunities to learn and work with new technologies.
Cons: It can be fast-paced, so occasional longer hours are expected during crucial project phases. Also, internal approval processes could be streamlined to make decision-making quicker.
Advice to Management: Focus on streamlining internal approval workflows to improve project velocity and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. Also, ensure consistent communication across all levels, especially during busy periods.

Solid place, but future feels a bit hazy
Pros: I've been here a while and generally appreciate the work. It's cool to build public safety technology, and the company itself is pretty stable. The benefits package for Software Engineer roles is decent, too.
Cons: Lately, there's been some talk about reorgs and shifting priorities. It makes you wonder how secure your spot really is, especially with the push for more hybrid work. Some folks are nervous.
Advice to Management: Be more transparent about future plans and how they impact different departments. Clarity helps calm people's worries about job security.

Leadership needs to step up at Axon
Pros: I did get to work on some interesting projects in public safety technology. The pay was pretty solid for a Software Engineer in the Scottsdale, AZ office. You learn a lot if you're proactive.
Cons: Leadership is inconsistent and often lacks clear direction. It felt like upper management wasn't always on the same page, which made our sprint planning tough. There's not much room for feedback on how things are run.
Advice to Management: Focus on improving communication and creating a unified vision across different teams. Listen to the feedback from individual contributors on what's actually feasible.

Leadership has some good, some not so good
Pros: Some individual managers are genuinely great and really support their engineering teams. You get to work on impactful public safety technology, like our cloud software for body camera data. It's a solid place for a Software Engineer to learn a lot if you're proactive.
Cons: Upper leadership decisions can feel pretty disconnected from the day-to-day. There's not always a clear vision, and it can change direction fast. This often creates extra work for teams in the Scottsdale office.
Advice to Management: Try to communicate strategic changes more clearly and consistently across all engineering departments. Connect with managers and individual contributors more often to understand ground-level impacts.

Solid Mission, Okay Compensation for Engineers
Pros: The medical benefits package is actually pretty good. You get decent coverage for a reasonable cost. Plus, they offer some solid perks like an employee stock purchase program, which is nice for a big tech company.
Cons: Base salary for a Software Engineer here in the Scottsdale office sometimes feels a bit low compared to market. It's tough when you see what competitors in law enforcement technology pay. The annual raises aren't always what you'd hope for either.
Advice to Management: Take a serious look at market compensation for technical roles, especially for Software Engineers. Retaining top talent in public safety tech requires competitive salaries.

Okay growth if you push hard
Pros: I did get to work on some impactful public safety software features. The benefits package is solid. There are opportunities if you're really proactive and seek them out in the hybrid model.
Cons: Career progression isn't clear for Software Engineer roles. There's not much formal mentorship or a clear path to promotion. It felt like you had to fight for new opportunities instead of having them presented.
Advice to Management: Create clearer career development paths for engineering roles. Invest more in mentorship programs and internal mobility initiatives. It would help retain talent.

Leadership Is a Mixed Bag for Tech Roles
Pros: Some of the direct managers for technical roles are really solid. They're good at guiding projects and understanding the cloud solutions we build. There's a decent focus on innovation in public safety technology.
Cons: Upper leadership can feel pretty disconnected. Decisions often seem top-down without much input, especially for those of us in the Scottsdale, AZ office. It makes driving projects forward tough sometimes.
Advice to Management: Try to be more transparent with big picture decisions. Get input from engineers and product teams before making sweeping changes. It helps us feel more bought-in.

Solid benefits, but pay needs a bump.
Pros: The health benefits package for a Software Engineer here is pretty good, actually. They have a decent 401k match, which is a nice perk. You get some good peace of mind knowing your family is covered, especially for a company in public safety technology.
Cons: Base salaries aren't as competitive as other big tech companies in the Scottsdale office. The bonus structure sometimes feels a bit opaque. I've heard similar feedback from other engineers about compensation.
Advice to Management: Review the compensation bands, especially for senior technical roles. Make the bonus process more transparent to help with retention.

Hybrid model has its moments at Axon
Pros: I've actually liked the hybrid model here; we get a couple *WFH days* a week. It's solid for managing personal stuff. The *public safety tech* we're building is pretty cool, which keeps the job interesting.
Cons: The 'flexibility' often feels like it's being pulled back. It's tough to get full remote approval, even for *engineering roles* that really don't need to be in the *Scottsdale, AZ office* daily. They're definitely pushing for more in-office time, which can affect *work-life balance*.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the full remote policy for those of us in roles that don't require a physical presence. Trust employees to manage their time and tasks effectively outside of the office, especially in a *corporate environment* like ours.

Okay for Experience, Not Great for Fast Growth
Pros: Working on public safety technology is genuinely impactful. You get exposure to interesting problems in law enforcement tech. The hybrid work model in the Scottsdale, AZ office is pretty flexible too, which is a plus.
Cons: Career progression for Software Engineer roles isn't super clear. It feels like you hit a ceiling pretty fast, and promotions are tough to come by. There aren't many defined paths for internal advancement, which is frustrating.
Advice to Management: Managers need to create clearer career ladders for individual contributors. Give us more opportunities for skill development and internal promotions. It'll help retain good people.
