Leadership Tries, But Execution is Tough
Pros: The client engagements as an Associate Consultant were genuinely interesting. I learned a ton about different industries, and the project deliverables often felt impactful. Plus, the New York City office environment is pretty vibrant.
Cons: Leadership often makes decisions without fully understanding what's happening on the ground. Communication can be a real struggle, and it feels like they don't always back up their teams during tough client situations. It can be frustrating trying to get clear direction.
Advice to Management: Spend more time with project teams to understand daily challenges. Improve internal communication channels and provide clearer support when things get tricky with clients. Your consultants need strong advocacy.

Okay balance, depends on the project
Pros: As an Associate Consultant in the Chicago office, I've had some projects with decent 40-45 hour weeks. There's also some flexibility for remote work which helps a lot with personal appointments.
Cons: Other client engagements can be pretty brutal, easily pushing 55-60+ hours. Senior leadership sometimes sets unrealistic project deadlines, making it tough to plan much in your personal life within this mid-sized consulting firm.
Advice to Management: Try to balance client demands with team capacity. Unrealistic project deadlines lead to burnout and make it hard for employees to stay motivated.

Culture is Decent, Room for Improvement
Pros: As an Associate Consultant, I found the team collaboration pretty solid on projects. People are generally willing to help you out, especially when you're new to this mid-sized consulting firm. There's a decent support system for learning.
Cons: The remote work culture can feel a bit cliquey sometimes. It's tough to build connections if you're not in the main office, which is common in the consulting industry. Inclusion sometimes feels like an afterthought for WFH employees.
Advice to Management: Try to foster more inclusive events for remote employees. Build programs that actively connect WFH folks with different teams. It'll help strengthen the overall company culture.

Leadership Can Be Hit or Miss at Fusion
Pros: I liked the exposure to diverse client projects, especially as a Senior Consultant. It's a great place to build your resume in the consulting industry. The hybrid model in the Chicago office offers decent flexibility too.
Cons: Leadership here really depends on your project and direct manager. There's often a lack of clear direction from some senior partners, which makes navigating client expectations tough for consulting roles. It's frustrating when you're putting in 50+ hour weeks and don't feel fully supported.
Advice to Management: Focus on consistent communication and better support for project teams. Senior leaders need to be more present and provide clearer guidance for their consultants.

Good starter role, slow career growth.
Pros: As a Junior Consultant, you get solid exposure to diverse client projects. It's a great learning environment for anyone new to management consulting. The hybrid work arrangement is also really helpful for work-life balance.
Cons: Career growth is pretty sluggish here for Junior Consultant roles. Promotions take forever, and there's no clear roadmap for advancement. It feels like you're stuck at the same level longer than you should be, especially in the New York City office.
Advice to Management: Management really needs to create clearer career paths and more opportunities for advancement. It's tough to stay motivated when growth feels so slow, especially for dedicated consultants in the New York City office. Invest more in development programs.

Job Security is Decent, Projects Fluctuate
Pros: For a Consultant in management consulting, there's usually a project. It's a big firm, so they generally try to keep people staffed, even if it means some internal work.
Cons: Bench time in the New York City office can feel really stressful. If you're not quick to find a new engagement, it feels like your role is on the line. It's tough for newer hires.
Advice to Management: Try to smooth out staffing levels. More transparency on future project pipeline would help reduce consultant anxiety.

Okay pay, benefits could be better here
Pros: The base salary was actually pretty solid, especially for a startup in San Francisco. As a Junior Consultant, my starting offer was competitive. They cover basic health insurance, which is fine.
Cons: The bonus structure for consulting roles isn't very transparent or generous. There aren't many perks beyond the basics, so don't expect much. Dental and vision plans are also pretty weak compared to other tech consulting firms in the area.
Advice to Management: Re-evaluate the bonus structure and expand benefit options, especially for dental and vision. Competitive benefits are key for retaining talent in this industry.

Work-life balance needs some serious help
Pros: You learn a massive amount in the management consulting industry, which is a huge plus for your career. There's also some flexibility with the hybrid work model, depending on your project team.
Cons: The work-life balance is definitely demanding; 50-60 hour weeks are pretty standard. Expect weekends to get eaten up often, especially before client presentations in the Chicago office.
Advice to Management: I think management needs to staff projects more realistically. People get burnt out when they consistently work 60+ hours; it's not sustainable.

Okay Pay, Benefits Need a Boost
Pros: The base salary for a Junior Management Consultant here is pretty solid, especially starting out. It's competitive with other mid-sized consulting firms. You get decent health insurance too, which is a big plus when you're working in the city.
Cons: PTO is a bit stingy, honestly, and actually using it can be tough with client work deadlines. Don't expect much flexibility for remote work either. The 401k match isn't super generous compared to what I've seen elsewhere.
Advice to Management: Revisit the PTO policy to allow more time off and encourage its use without penalty. Consider improving the 401k match to attract and retain talent in this competitive consulting industry.

Okay Flexibility for Consulting Roles
Pros: The hybrid model is a plus; I appreciate not being in the Chicago office every single day. As a Senior Consultant, I can usually balance client deliverables with my personal life, especially with some WFH.
Cons: Despite the hybrid setup, you're expected to be available constantly for clients. True flexibility can be tough in the consulting industry when project demands are high. Can't always pick your hours.
Advice to Management: Give more autonomy on project scheduling. Managers should really support true WFH when it doesn't impact client work and empower teams.
