Pay is Okay, Benefits Need Work
Pros: The base salary is solid for an R&D Scientist, especially in the flavor and fragrance industry. They match a decent amount on the 401k, which is a plus for retirement planning.
Cons: Health insurance premiums feel high, it really eats into the paycheck. Annual raises are pretty small, often barely keeping up with inflation. Not much room for significant pay increases unless you move up, which is tough in this big corporate company for onsite roles.
Advice to Management: Look into better health insurance options for employees. Making annual raises more competitive would help with retention. It's hard to feel valued when pay increases are so small.

Okay pay, benefits could be better for the industry
Pros: The health insurance plans for employees at this established corporate company are pretty decent. There's a good 401k match, which is a big plus for long-term savings in the food and beverage manufacturing industry. You get paid bi-weekly, so cash flow is predictable.
Cons: Base salary for a Food Scientist in the St. Louis office felt low compared to other specialty ingredients firms. Raises aren't very substantial each year, it's tough to really get ahead financially. Bonuses are hit or miss and don't make up for the lower base compensation.
Advice to Management: Review compensation benchmarks for all R&D roles in the flavor industry. Competitive salaries attract and retain top talent.

Decent Work-Life Balance for a Large Corp
Pros: As a Food Scientist, I generally had good access to lab resources in the flavors and colors industry. The company does offer a hybrid model which is a big plus for work flexibility. When deadlines aren't crushing, you can stick to pretty standard 40-hour weeks in the Milwaukee office.
Cons: The work-life balance here can get tough during peak product development cycles. You'll often find yourself staying late or taking work home, especially in the specialty ingredients division. It's not uncommon to feel overwhelmed when multiple projects hit at once.
Advice to Management: Management should work on better project load distribution, especially for R&D teams. It'd help prevent burnout and improve retention in the long run.

Decent place, but culture needs a refresh
Pros: The team here, especially within food science and flavor development, is usually pretty solid. You can learn a lot from experienced folks as an R&D Scientist. People generally help each other out.
Cons: The corporate culture can feel pretty old-school sometimes. It's hard to get new ideas approved if you're new in the Milwaukee office. Innovation seems slow.
Advice to Management: Try to encourage more innovation from the ground up. Listen to what younger R&D Scientists are saying. Modernizing the corporate culture would go a long way.

Okay place for specialty ingredients
Pros: My team was great, everyone helps each other out. As an R&D Scientist, I got to work on interesting food science projects. The lab environment in the Milwaukee office is pretty solid for developing new flavors.
Cons: The corporate culture feels a bit old-school. Leadership doesn't always get what front-line R&D staff need, especially regarding modern work practices. There's not much hybrid work for lab roles, which is tough.
Advice to Management: Listen more to your scientific teams. Update policies for a modern workforce, especially for those involved in specialty ingredients development. Consider more flexible work options where possible.

Good starting point, limited upward movement
Pros: I learned a lot about flavor development working as an Associate Flavor Scientist. The initial training and exposure to various projects in the Milwaukee office were really valuable. It's a stable, established company, which is nice for job security.
Cons: Career growth here is pretty tough; there just aren't many opportunities to move up quickly. You often see people stuck in the same role for years, and promotions feel slow coming. For R&D roles, it can feel like a bit of a bottleneck.
Advice to Management: Management should really look into creating clearer paths for internal promotions and leadership development. It would help retain talent and show employees their growth is valued.

Good stability in a corporate lab setting.
Pros: As an R&D Scientist in Milwaukee, WI, I felt pretty secure in my role. The food and beverage ingredient industry is quite stable, so you don't really worry about massive layoffs here. It's a large corporate environment, which helps with general job security.
Cons: Internal career growth can feel really slow, especially for us in onsite lab roles. There's not always a super clear path to advance, which sometimes makes you feel stuck. It can be tough to find new challenges without leaving.
Advice to Management: Focus more on clear internal development plans and promotion pathways for your technical staff. It would really help retain talent and keep people engaged in the long run.

Okay if you're good with onsite, but not much flex.
Pros: I've learned a ton as an R&D Chemist here, especially working on new flavor and fragrance development. The team in the Milwaukee office is pretty good too, always helping each other out. It's stable work in the specialty ingredients industry.
Cons: Work flexibility isn't really a thing, unfortunately. Most of us are strictly onsite. You can't really WFH when you're doing lab experiments. It makes work-life balance a bit of a challenge sometimes.
Advice to Management: Consider implementing a hybrid model where possible, or offering more flexible hours for roles that don't require constant lab presence. It would really help with employee morale and retention.

Okay for career, tough on personal time
Pros: I've gained so much experience as a Formulation Scientist here, working on cool projects in the food and beverage industry. The St. Louis office environment is stable, and there are lots of smart people.
Cons: The work-life balance isn't great, especially for R&D roles. You're expected to put in 50+ hours a week pretty regularly. It's tough to have a life outside of work when you're always crunching, especially for onsite positions.
Advice to Management: Management needs to really look at workload distribution. It feels like project timelines are too aggressive, pushing us to work excessive hours. Supporting work-life balance for your employees should be a bigger priority.
