Booth offers good stability for staff roles
Pros: As a Program Coordinator in the Chicago office, I felt pretty secure. Being part of a big university like UChicago means there's a lot of underlying stability in higher education. You don't worry about layoffs much.
Cons: While job security is strong, rapid career growth isn't always there for administrative staff. Promotions can be slow, and you might need to jump departments to move up. Funding for new initiatives sometimes makes things uncertain.
Advice to Management: Try to create clearer career paths and more opportunities for internal promotion for non-faculty staff. It would help with retention.

Leadership Tries Hard, But Misses Sometimes
Pros: Some of the project managers really know their stuff. They're good at guiding you on tough client deliverables. You get decent support as an Associate Consultant on your immediate team, which is nice.
Cons: Senior leadership can feel pretty distant from daily operations. There's often a lack of clear direction for company-wide initiatives. It makes it tough to see where your career growth is headed long-term in the Chicago office.
Advice to Management: Try to bridge the gap between senior leadership and project teams. More transparent communication on strategic goals would really help everyone, especially those of us focused on daily consulting projects.

Growth Opportunities Are Decent, But Could Be Clearer
Pros: You work on diverse projects across the financial services industry, which helps build a solid skillset. There's good exposure to different clients and problems, especially early on in your career. It's a decent place to learn if you're eager.
Cons: The career progression for consulting roles isn't very transparent in our Chicago office. It's hard to tell what you need to do to get promoted. Formal mentorship programs are missing, so you're largely on your own for career planning. It can feel a bit stagnant if you're not constantly pushing.
Advice to Management: Establish clearer promotion criteria for Associate Consultants and create structured mentorship programs. Help employees understand the path forward in their careers at Booth.
